Fuel System Pressure

RELIEVING

Protégé
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove the rear seat cushion and locate the fuel pump connector.
  3. Disconnect the fuel pump connector.
  4. Start the engine.
  5. After the engine stalls, turn the ignition switch OFF.
  6. After servicing the vehicle, reconnect the fuel pump connector and install the rear seat cushion.
626 and MX-6
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove the fuel pump relay from the relay box, located in the left side of the engine compartment.
  3. Start the engine.
  4. After the engine stalls, turn the ignition switch OFF.
  5. After servicing the vehicle, reinstall the relay.
Miata
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Loosen the fuel filler cap to release the pressure in the tank.
  3. Remove the fuel pump relay connector, located above the accelerator pedal.
  4. Start the engine.
  5. After the engine stalls, turn the ignition switch OFF.
  6. After servicing the vehicle, reinstall the relay and tighten the fuel filler cap.

Millenia
2.3L ENGINES
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. If necessary for clearance, remove the cruise control actuator and position aside.
  3. Remove the fuel pump relay from the relay box, located in the right side of the engine compartment.
  4. Start the engine.
  5. After the engine stalls, turn the ignition switch OFF.
  6. After servicing the vehicle, reinstall the relay and the cruise actuator, if necessary.
2.5L ENGINES

To relieve the fuel system pressure on the 2.5L engine, refer to the 626 and MX-6 procedure.
